Whiteheads can be a troubling form of acne, but with proper treatment you can get rid of whiteheads and prevent future outbreaks. Knowing why your get whiteheads will make treating it easier.
Whiteheads aren’t as different as blackheads as one might assume. They are made the same way but the main difference is that blackheads pores have large opening and whiteheads pores have small openings. The small opening of a pore makes it so that air can’t get to the hair follicle and oxidation doesn’t occur so it doesn’t turn black but stays white.
Whiteheads are one of the most common form of acne and fortunately one of the easiest kinds to treat. Making sure that you use treatments that are good for your specific skin type will make treating your whiteheads easier and faster.
Since whiteheads are made with pores that have small openings to clean out the pore you need to open it up. Using a steam bath is the best way to open the pores and start cleansing your skin.
Take a bowl of boiling water and have your face about a foot above the water. Drape a towel over your head so that you get the most steam. Breath in the steam for at least 15 minutes, this allow your pores to fully open. You can add lemon juice or lemon oil, or tea tree oil to the water to begin cleaning your pores.
After your pores are open use a facial scrub to clean out the whiteheads. Tomatoes are one of the best effective remedies for whiteheads. Mash some tomatoes and scrub it into your skin. The seeds act as an exfoliate and the juice has strong antibacterial and astringent properties. Leave the mashed tomatoes on your skin for about 5 minutes, if you leave the tomatoes on your skin longer the high acidic level of tomatoes might irritate your skin. Rinse off with warm water; you can repeat this every day of the week.
Fortunately to treat whiteheads you don’t need extreme chemicals or treatment regimens. Using products that contain benzoyl peroxide are very effective in treating whiteheads. But if you have sensitive or dry skin look for products that come with gentler ingredients like aloe vera.
Salicylic acid is a strong cleansing agent that has antibacterial properties and is very effective against whiteheads. But products that have a high salicylic acid content can easily dry out and irritate the skin. When using these products only wash your face once a day and just use a warm water rinse the second time you wash your face. Use with a moisturizer since your skin can get dried out when using salicylic acid.
When you have cleared away all of your whiteheads continue to do the same treatment. Whiteheads are common and can easily come back once you stop caring for your face. Continue to treat your face for whiteheads a few times a week and you will have clear and whitehead free skin.
