Acne Treatment for Mature Skin

Even as we age our skin can still get acne. Acne doesn’t just affect those going through puberty, it can affect anyone at any age. During different phases of life the body produces more oils, not just during puberty, which can lead to an acne breakout.

People who have mature skin are prone to acne because the skin dries out and isn’t as moist as it was during puberty and often becomes more sensitive. This change in skin type can lead to acne. When the skin gets drier it is prone to cracking, which is another way that bacteria, dirt and oil can get into the skin and cause acne.

Home Acne Treatment for Mature Skin

With dry and sensitive skin the home acne treatment for mature skin needs to change. No longer should you use the same acne treatments that you used when you were a teenager. You need to adopt acne treatments that are gentler on the skin, won’t dry it out more and can still get rid of acne.

• To clean out the skin and still be gentle, make facial scrubs that doesn’t have harsh ingredients, cleansers that are gentle and make your skin feeling soft and clean. Using aloe vera, tea tree oil and homemade facial scrubs are gentle on the skin and perfect for sensitive, dry and mature skin.

• A wheat bran scrub is gentle on the skin. Mix 1 to 2 teaspoons of bran with a teaspoon of olive oil and one egg yolk. The bran helps to clean out the pores, the oil is perfect for putting moisture back into your skin and the yolk has vitamins that are perfect for aging skin. If your skin is still a little oily and not as dry, you can substitute the oil with aloe vera or tea tree oil. After gently scrubbing your face, rinse the facial scrub off with warm water. After the scrub is completely rinsed off, splash a little bit of cold water onto your face before drying. Cold water closes pores and will prevent bacteria and dirt from getting into the pores and making your break out.

Best Acne Treatment for Mature Skin

It gets very frustrating as your skin matures that the acne treatments you used when you were younger stop working when you are older. The main reason is that your skin goes through simple changes and isn’t as moist as it used to be. The drier and more sensitive your skin gets the more you need to use different acne treatments for mature skin.

Using a moisturizer often will help your skin to stay moist. Use a moisturizer that has gentle ingredients like aloe vera and tea tree oil.

Avoid cleansers with benzoyl peroxide since they are rougher on your skin and may cause irritation. Use cleansers that have salicylic acid or sulfur which are both gentle on your skin, cleans your skin thoroughly and helps prevent future breakouts.
