Acne Treatment for Pregnant Women

Being pregnant and having acne can be very annoying. Almost every product says to not use if you are pregnant and yet this is when you may need to get rid of acne most. When you are pregnant the hormone progesterone becomes dominant and may lead to your body creating more sebaceous oils. These oils often clog your pores which are a perfect spot for bacteria to get in and make a pimple.

But take comfort in knowing that pregnancy is short term and the acne won’t continue and that there are many safe things that you can do that will be good for your skin and isn’t harmful to your baby.

Home Acne Treatment for Pregnant Women

You do need to be careful about the ingredients that you use when making home acne treatments since you are pregnant. But if it safe for you to eat, then it is safe for you to use. Remember that not all foods are good for you to eat when you are pregnant, so avoid using these foods when making your homemade remedies for acne.

Safe homemade masks that will help cleanse your skin and moisten it are made of natural ingredients. Try making a paste by pureeing tomato - which is a good cleansing agent, and cucumber - helps your skin heal faster. Add some plain yogurt or aloe vera which helps to moisturize your skin. If you would like to exfoliate your skin add some oatmeal. Combine all the ingredients into a fine paste. Apply to your skin and gently massage into your skin for a few minutes. You can even leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes and let your skin soak up all the good nutrients. Afterwards wash off with warm water.

If you want something a little stronger try using lemon juice or any citrus juice with the pulp. You can gently massage it onto your skin or mix it first with aloe vera. This is very refreshing and will help your pores to close and not let any dirt or bacteria get into your skin. Rose water is very soothing to your skin and is beneficial to mild cases of acne. If you want to avoid doing anything harsh to your skin try using soothing ingredients and always gently wash your face, don’t be rough.

Best Acne Treatment for Pregnant Women

Most products used to treat acne are NOT suitable for pregnant women. The ingredients can quickly be absorbed into the blood stream which directly affects your baby.

Many moisturizers that are great for your skin contain retinoids. Retinoids work wonders on wrinkles and aging skin and are a sought after product. But you need to avoid these products when pregnant because they can cause birth defects.

Avoid all products that have aspirin and salicylate acid. Salicylate acid is a powerful cleanser and is found in most facial cleansers. It is safe on all skin types since it doesn’t irritate the skin. Salicylate acid, also found in aspirin, is dangerous to your baby and can cause birth defects. And in products it is even more dangerous since it can enter the bloodstream faster.

If you don’t want to endure acne while pregnant there are some ingredients that are safe. Benzoyl peroxide is safe in small doses. And you can use products that have glycolic acid. Glycolic acid is safe to use while pregnant and will help you to get rid of pimples during your pregnancy. But it is best to talk with your doctor before you start using any products.
